"The Collage Aesthetic recognises multiplicity of form and content, duality, contradiction, juxtaposition, complexity. . .

and expansion as the essential qualities of modern life and modern art." - April Kingsley

“Everything had broken down and new things had to be made out of the fragments. Collage was like an image of the revolution within me—not as it was, but as it might have been.” - Kurt Schwitters

The idea was ignited when Marcii Goosen, was faced with a decision on what to do with the piles and piles of magazines she’d collected over the years. “When the economy crashed I decided that I wasn’t allowed to buy another magazine until I’d gone through all of my existing ones and used them to create art.” She believes we live in a collage reality, constantly deconstructing, recycling, copying and pasting, splicing, and re-assembling old concepts and cultures into a new and meaningful whole. Thus Club Collage is the perfect metaphor for the times we live in.

These events are not merely a vehicle for this beautifully basic yet complex surrealist artistic technique, but a space to flex hands-on play and open ourselves to a creative cognitive modus operandi that taps into the subconscious mind. Our long-term goal is to inspire people from diverse contexts to step away from their everyday routines and join in on the collage experience, as a means of building community and trust through creation, conversation and collaboration.

It’s in this spirit that we’d like you to get involved, helping us amplify the potential that Club Collage holds. Whether it’s sponsoring some supplies or handing over your scrap materials and offcuts that would’ve otherwise landed in the bin and eventually the dump – every little bit goes a long way. Think disused segments, waste materials, sun-stained and water damaged items, forgotten pieces, or articles no longer relevant to you.  You don’t have to come to us, we’ll collect from your premises.
In exchange for your help we will offer you a presence on our website, at the events and exhibition, as well as exposure through our social media coverage of Club Collage. With your backing, artists and designers will have the chance to repurpose your waste matter to create beautiful works of art, whilst engaging in a therapeutic activity that’s bound to have a positive ripple effect on our communities and environment.
